Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Announces Eid ul Adha date in Pakistan 

Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad has announced that Eid ul Adha will be celebrated on June 17 (Monday) as the Zilhaj moon has been sighted in Pakistan.

The announcement was made after a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convened at the Pakistan Meteorological Department office in Karachi. Representatives from SUPARCO and Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz also attended the meeting.

The zonal committees also convened meetings at their respective headquarters in Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar. During a news conference, Maulana Azad announced that with unanimous consensus, it was decided that Eid ul Adha would be celebrated on June 17.

Earlier, the Climate Data Processing Centre had forecasted the sighting of the Zilhaj moon on Friday, June 7, leading to the celebration of Eid ul Adha on Monday, June 17.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz had stated that the new moon signaling the beginning of the Islamic month of Zilhaj will appear at 5:38 pm local time on June 6, coinciding with the sunset at 7:20 pm. 

Meanwhile, Pakistanis are expected to enjoy up to five holidays during the Eid. As most of government offices and some educational institutes have Saturday as an off-day, the holidays will commence from June 15.
