The head of the World Health Organization said he was “extremely concerned” about an unusual spike in Covid cases in China on Wednesday, and the health organization asked Beijing to expedite vaccination of those who are most at risk.
“WHO is very concerned over the evolving situation in China, with increasing reports of severe disease” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

China has enacted stringent health regulations from 2020 as part of a so-called “zero Covid” programme.
