Markets, restaurants may shut down at 08.00PM

The federal government presented its energy-saving plan on Tuesday, which stipulates that all markets and eateries must close at 8 p.m.

The wedding halls will close at 10 p.m., according to Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, who spoke at a press conference following the cabinet meeting.

He noted that the restaurant hours might be pushed back by around an hour.

“If 20% of the workers are sent for work from home on rotational basis, this will save Rs56 billion,” said the minister.

“The government is also introducing e-bikes which will phase out the bikes that use petrol. The government is negotiating with the companies to phase out the bikes that use petrol and modify the existing bikes,” said Asif.

According to the minister, the administration is contacting all four provinces to let them know about the programme and get their support. He said that it will be introduced with consensus and that it is a national programme.

After meetings with the other provinces, Asif stated, this strategy will be finalized on Thursday.

According to Asif, the nation cannot sustain the standard of living as it is due to the dire economic scenario.
