Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has recommended reintroducing Saturday as a holiday for government offices and educational institutions, resulting in a two-day weekend.
The Minister took to Twitter to say that, given the current situation, off days on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as a half-day on Fridays, could help the country save power and gasoline.

He also suggested that weekday formal working hours be expanded by one hour. The decision would strengthen the country’s austerity culture.
The Defense Minister’s suggestion comes a week after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif rejected the plan for restoring Saturday as a holiday, citing widespread opposition from government workers and students.
PM Shehbaz announced shortly after his election in April that two weekly holidays will be abolished, with just Sunday being observed as a holiday in federal government agencies and educational institutions.
