Another Major City is Getting E-Challan System

The Sindh Police is set to roll out a faceless e-ticket challan system in Karachi in the coming days, aiming to modernize traffic enforcement and improve road safety, according to a recent announcement by Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon.

The decision came during a high-level meeting held at the Central Police Office (CPO) Karachi on Monday. Attended by Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, senior DIGs, and all SPs of Traffic Karachi, the meeting focused on bringing the province’s traffic police system up to modern standards.

IGP Memon said that introducing the faceless e-challan system — which will issue electronic traffic tickets directly to violators’ homes — is a step toward improving accountability and convenience for the public. “Traffic police are the face of law enforcement on the streets. This system will help build public trust while enforcing rules effectively,” he noted.

A briefing during the meeting highlighted recent reforms, accident prevention strategies, and the implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) prepared by the Sindh government. Heavy vehicle owners have also started cooperating with authorities under the new guidelines.

Additional IG Odho emphasized the importance of collaboration between government institutions and stakeholders to ensure better traffic rule enforcement across Karachi. He also stated that regular meetings are held to monitor progress.

To further strengthen enforcement, speed guns and speedometers will be procured to monitor vehicle speeds, and efforts will be made to verify vehicle fitness through the Transport Department. The Sindh Police also plans to set up driving training schools to educate motorists and reduce traffic violations.

The IGP instructed that public-friendly officers be deployed on the roads and called for improved working conditions for traffic personnel, especially during extreme heat.

The faceless e-challan system is expected to launch shortly, with authorities hopeful it will make traffic enforcement fairer and more efficient.
