In a major step toward empowering students and improving access to education, the Punjab government has announced the upcoming launch of a province-wide “Student Card” for all learners enrolled in public and private institutions.
The initiative, led by the Punjab Education Department, aims to ease daily challenges faced by students while also creating a digital bridge between academic performance and future opportunities.
One of the most immediate benefits of the Student Card will be free access to public transport. Students will be able to travel at no cost simply by presenting their card — a move that is expected to benefit thousands, particularly those from rural or financially challenged backgrounds.

Beyond transport, the Student Card will act as a digital academic profile, storing each student’s educational history, grades, and co-curricular activities. Officials say this centralized data system will support better educational planning, personalized learning paths, and career development.
The card will also serve as a key tool for accessing national and international scholarships. The Education Department plans to collaborate with various service providers — including career counseling firms and e-learning platforms — to give students additional academic and career support.
By linking all student data through a single platform, the Punjab government aims to create a centralized student database, which will help streamline resource distribution and long-term policy planning.
The program is currently under development, and officials say the rollout will begin once all infrastructure and partnerships are in place.
