The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is gearing up for a major expansion, with plans underway to increase the number of franchises from six to eight in time for Season 11.
According to sources, PSL CEO Salman Naseer has confirmed that the league will officially feature eight teams in 2026. The expansion marks a long-awaited step forward for the tournament, which has grown in popularity both at home and abroad.
Cities Under Review for New Teams
Naseer revealed that Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Sialkot, and Faisalabad are all being considered as potential hosts for the new franchises. A final decision is expected in the coming months.
The inclusion of Sialkot and Faisalabad would be especially welcomed by fans, as both cities boast strong cricketing backgrounds. Faisalabad, known for producing stars like Misbah-ul-Haq and Saeed Ajmal, was once home to the Faisalabad Wolves in domestic T20 competitions.
Sialkot, on the other hand, has a deep-rooted cricket culture and a strong track record in local tournaments.
Expanding PSL’s Reach
The possibility of bringing in Hyderabad and Mirpur Khas signals a push to include regions that have had limited representation at the top level. If selected, it would be a significant step toward promoting cricket in interior Sindh and broadening the PSL’s reach across the country.
More Matches, More Opportunities
Adding two new teams will naturally lead to a longer season, more matches, and increased opportunities for rising talent. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly confident that it can handle the logistical challenges, including stadium readiness and expanding team rosters.
With PSL 10 currently drawing record viewership, league officials believe this is the right time to grow. The momentum behind the tournament has never been stronger, and expanding now could help establish the PSL among the world’s top T20 leagues.
For cricket fans in the shortlisted cities, the countdown to next season just got a lot more exciting.
