Govt declares 30 bottled water brands unsafe for drinking

The government has flagged 30 bottled water brands as unfit for drinking, citing microbiological and chemical contamination as key concerns, according to a report from the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR).

Following government-mandated quarterly inspections to safeguard public health, PCRWR collected 205 water samples across 21 cities between July and September 2024.

These samples were tested to check compliance with the standards set by the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA).

The report revealed that 12 brands, including Natural Pure Life, Bro H2O, Purifa Spring Water, and Aqua Health, exceeded safe sodium levels, making them a potential health risk.

Brands such as Black Seed Water and Natural recorded turbidity above the accepted thresholds, and Black Seed Water also showed a concerning pH imbalance.

Further, bacterial contamination was found in brands like D Nova Pure Drinking Water, Afra, and Aqua Slim, marking them unsafe for consumers.

PCRWR’s findings urge the public to remain vigilant about water quality and advise choosing certified brands that meet safety standards.

Authorities have stressed the importance of these routine checks to maintain public health standards, encouraging consumers to stay updated on bottled water safety in Pakistan.
