Is PCB appointing ASP Shehrbano as head of women’s cricket?

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi is emerging as a top contender for the role of Head of Pakistan Women’s Cricket, according to insiders within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This role has become vacant following the recent departure of Tania Mallick, who resigned to explore new career opportunities.

Mallick, who joined the PCB in October 2021, made substantial contributions to women’s cricket, particularly at the grassroots level, earning her international recognition, including a position on the ICC Women’s Committee. PCB COO Salman Naseer praised her efforts, acknowledging her dedication to expanding Pakistan’s women’s cricket.

The PCB’s shortlist reportedly includes Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi, an ASP known for her commendable service in the police force. She garnered public attention in February for her courageous intervention to protect a woman from a mob in Lahore’s Ichra Bazaar.

Also among the candidates is a former Deputy Commissioner of Lahore, a notable figure during PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s tenure as interim Chief Minister of Punjab.

The shortlist has sparked some concerns due to personal connections between the candidates and Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, particularly since Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi is reportedly serving as his Personal Staff Officer in the Interior Ministry.
