Pakistani City Ranked Among Least Liveable Globally

Karachi has once again been ranked among the least liveable cities in the world, according to a recent global survey. The city scored an overall 42.7 out of 100, with stability being the weakest area, receiving only 20 points.

The Economist Intelligence Unit assessed 173 cities globally, focusing on healthcare, culture and environment, stability, infrastructure, and education. Karachi is positioned at 169th place.

The scores in various sectors were 54.2 for healthcare, 35.9 for culture and environment, 75 for education, and 51.8 for infrastructure.

Similar challenges are faced by cities like Lagos in Nigeria, Algiers in Algeria, Tripoli in Libya, and Damascus in Syria, which are also near the bottom of the list with similarly difficult living conditions.

This report comes amid ongoing political and economic instability in Pakistan.

In sharp contrast, Vienna in Austria has maintained its top position with a score of 98.4. Copenhagen in Denmark is second, and Zurich in Switzerland has moved up to third from sixth.

Western European cities generally scored well, with an average score of 92 out of 100 for 30 cities. Despite this, there has been a slight decline in stability scores in the region due to “increasing instances of disruptive protests” and rising crime rates.

Here are the top 10 most liveable cities of 2024:

1. Vienna, Austria

2. Copenhagen, Denmark

3. Zurich, Switzerland

4. Melbourne, Australia

5. Calgary, Canada
