FIA summons PTI leaders over controversial tweet

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has sent notices to three additional leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) regarding their involvement in the uploading of a contentious video featuring Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from the official ‘X’, formerly known as a Twitter account of imprisoned party founder Imran Khan.

Imran Khan has already received notice in connection with this matter.

On May 26, a post appeared on the social media platform X from Imran Khan’s account, managed by his social media team during his imprisonment, sharing a video with a quote attributed to him: “Every Pakistani should study the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report and get to know who was the true traitor, General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”

The video claimed that the former military ruler was responsible for the country’s division, citing alleged atrocities committed by the Pakistani military during the civil conflict. It also depicted images of the current civilian and military leadership, accusing them of stealing the party’s electoral victory in the general elections.

The post sparked significant backlash and controversy, particularly from government quarters, who labelled it as “alarming” and accused the PTI of “continuously promoting the narrative of animosity and provocation” by drawing parallels between Imran and Sheikh Mujib.

Sources suggest that the FIA has called upon Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, and Raoof Hasan for questioning on Tuesday at 11am.
