Jail Bharo Tehreek by PTI begins today

Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has declared that the party’s “Jail Bharo Tehreek” (court arrest movement) will begin today.

Khan gave two key explanations for why the Prison Bharo Tehreek was founded on Twitter.

“One, it is a peaceful, non-violent protest against the attack on our constitutionally-guaranteed fundamental rights. We are facing sham FIRs and NAB cases, custodial torture, attacks on journalists and social media people,” wrote Khan.

Khan continued by stating that the second reason is the economic collapse brought on by a cabal of thieves who have money laundered billions in stolen wealth and obtained NROs for themselves while squeezing the populace, particularly the poor and the middle class, under the weight of spiraling inflation and rising unemployment.

In a video address, the former prime minister urged his supporters to overcrowd prisons and destroy the gods of fear.

The movement’s main leaders, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Asad Umar, will willingly hand themselves in to the police on Tuesday as part of the first phase.

It’s unclear what crime party leaders and members are supposed to commit in order to start the arrest process.
