Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has received threats from Mahant Paramhans Acharya to be burned alive for “insulting” the saffron color in his next movie “Pathan.”
Extremists’ outrage at a song from the movie, in which Deepika Padukone, the lead actress, is depicted sporting a saffron bikini, sparked the threat. The song’s name, “Besharam Rang,” translates roughly to “Shameless Color.” Hindus hold the colour in high regard, and many priests opt to wear saffron robes.
According to Acharya, the song denigrated the color saffron.
“People of our Sanatan Dharma are protesting continuously regarding this matter. Today we have burnt the poster of Shah Rukh Khan. If I get to meet the film Jihadi Shah Rukh Khan, I will burn him alive,” he said.
The most recent controversy started when Mumbai Police announced that they had received a complaint to file a FIR against the movie’s director, producer, and stars for the song Besharam Rang. The saffron bikini Deepika was wearing was the subject of the complaint, which claimed that it had been worn to offend Hindus’ religious feelings.
