PayPal might be coming to Pakistan

Senator Shaukat Tarin, a former finance minister, stated on Monday that Pakistani IT freelancers have $3–4 billion stashed abroad and are afraid to send money home because of high taxes.

He also requested the government to provide independent contractors access to 100% foreign currency accounts so they could send and receive money without limitations.

The deputy chairman of the Senate, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, stated that in order to increase Pakistan’s exports of IT goods and services, it is crucial to introduce global payment systems like PayPal to Pakistan.

Government officials told Senator Afridi that negotiations to bring PayPal and other equivalent payment gateways to Pakistan had already begun.

“We are working to launch this service as soon as possible in Pakistan. According to the officials, payments are now made on Amazon using a payment gateway connected to PayPal.
