Govt to Provide EV Taxis to Unemployed Youth on Instalments

The Sindh government has unveiled a plan to provide electric vehicles (EVs) to unemployed youth through affordable instalments, aiming to address rising unemployment while promoting environmental sustainability.

The programme will supply eco-friendly EV taxis, enabling young people to earn a livelihood by driving. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has instructed the transport secretary to collaborate with banks and financial institutions to devise financial models for the initiative.

These models will focus on creating flexible repayment schemes, allowing participants to gradually own the vehicles.

During a meeting with officials from a Karachi-based EV taxi assembly company, Memon received a detailed briefing on the environmental advantages of electric vehicles. He emphasised that the programme aligns with the provincial government’s goal of fostering a greener Sindh while simultaneously creating sustainable employment opportunities for the youth.

Memon highlighted that the initiative would provide long-term economic stability for young individuals, offering a dependable income source through environmentally friendly means. He added that the project reflects the province’s commitment to environmental conservation by introducing cleaner transport options.

The project’s rollout is anticipated soon, with the first batch of EV taxis aimed at offering reliable, eco-friendly transportation while supporting jobless youth across Sindh.
