A prominent Chinese bus manufacturer has announced plans to establish a manufacturing plant for intra-city electric buses in Karachi.
The CEO of Yutong Middle East, along with other officials, met with Sindh’s Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon today to discuss the initiative.
Speaking to the media, the provincial minister stated, “The installation of the Yutong bus manufacturing plant will commence within the next three months.”
The provincial minister added that the installation of buses manufacturing plant will be completed by the next year. He added that the Yutong’s intra-city and electric buses will be manufactured in Karachi soon.

Sharjeel Memon further revealed that both electric and hybrid diesel buses will be manufactured at Yutong’s Karachi facility. He hoped that the establishment of the bus manufacturing plant would stimulate local industries and generate new job opportunities.
“The preparation of buses in Karachi will help in saving foreign exchange, while the buses’ export will also benefit Pakistan,” he added.
It is pertinent to mention that back in 2022, the Chinese company had agreed to set up a public transport plant in Karachi. The agreement was reached following a meeting between provincial minister for transport Sharjeel Inam Memon and Yutong Bus Country Manager Paul Zhang.
Moreover, just a few weeks ago Yutong Bus Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Joint Venture Company and locally manufacture and assemble Yutong’s new energy city buses in Pakistan.
