Since Tuesday night, users in Pakistan have had major trouble accessing Facebook, causing widespread frustration. Many Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country have been unable to connect to Facebook on Tuesday and Wednesday, leading users to turn to other social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to express their concerns.
Despite numerous complaints, neither Facebook’s parent company Meta nor the internet monitoring service NetBlock have confirmed any issues affecting Facebook’s accessibility in Pakistan. This lack of information has left many users confused and looking for answers.
Some people speculate that the government might have imposed a ban on Facebook, especially after recent discussions about restricting social media access during Muharram.

Additionally, Downdetector, a site that tracks online outages, reported that users started experiencing problems with Facebook and Facebook Messenger shortly after 11 pm on Tuesday, and these issues continued throughout Wednesday.
Earlier, on July 4, the Punjab government proposed to the Ministry of Interior to shut down key social media platforms, including YouTube and Facebook, from the 6th to the 11th of Muharram for security reasons.
However, the government decided against proceeding with this shutdown.
