11 Packaged Snacks Declared Unsafe

The Sindh Food Authority (SFA) has ordered a private company to withdraw 11 of its packaged snack products from the market after a laboratory deemed them unfit for consumption.

The products include Slanty Vegetable, Snackers Hot Masala, Snackers Pizza, Twitch Classic, Potato Sticks, Cheese Ball Masala, Cheese Balls Cheese, Kai Korean Hot, Kai Spicy Mala, Kai Mala Wok, and Kai Korean Kimchi.

SFA Director General Muzamil Hussain Halepoto stated that the company must remove these items from the market within three days or face legal action.

The SFA’s tests, conducted by the Food Testing Laboratory at the University of Karachi, revealed these products failed to meet safety and quality standards, posing significant health risks.

The SFA’s directive also calls for other provincial food authorities to investigate the issue in their jurisdictions to protect public health. The company initially submitted 24 products for registration, but these 11 failed the tests conducted on April 19.

In a letter, the SFA demanded an immediate recall of the affected products, cessation of their production and sale, and detailed information about their stock within three days. The company has the right to appeal this decision within one week.

The SFA has reserved the right to pursue further legal actions, including penal and criminal proceedings, under the relevant laws. The company has yet to issue a public response to the SFA’s actions.
