The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said temperatures across several regions of the country are currently above normal, with mild heatwave conditions expected to develop in the coming days.
In its latest update, the National Weather Forecasting Centre stated that temperatures in southern parts are running 2°C to 4°C above the seasonal average. PMD said a mild heatwave is likely to affect southern areas from April 29 to May 3.

The department identified south Punjab, upper Sindh, and southern and eastern Balochistan as the most heat-prone regions, where temperatures can sometimes rise up to 52°C during heatwave conditions. It added that the normal temperature range in these areas during May and June remains between 43°C and 45°C.
The forecast also noted that upper parts of the country are likely to be influenced by a westerly weather system from the night of April 27 to April 29, and again from May 3 to May 5.
Due to the westerly wave, temperatures in northern areas are expected to drop by 2°C to 4°C during these periods.
PMD said it is monitoring the situation and will issue further updates if heatwave conditions develop. The department also noted that global climate indicators remain neutral, while there is a 61% chance of El Niño conditions emerging between May and July.
