Govt Considers Online Classes to Save Energy

The federal government is considering a series of measures, including online classes, under the National Action Plan to modify work and education routines across the country and reduce energy consumption.

According to sources familiar with the development, the proposals include digital learning for educational institutions, reduced office attendance, and remote work options for corporate and IT sectors. The measures could be introduced from March 2026.

Educational institutions may begin conducting online classes to reduce physical attendance and lower energy use. Proposals under consideration also include allowing employees in the corporate sector to work remotely for two days each week.

Telecom and information technology companies are reviewing similar arrangements. Government offices may adopt a system in which only essential staff remain physically present while other employees work remotely.

Other proposals include encouraging shared transport for office staff and expanding online services for job applicants to further reduce energy consumption. Similar arrangements were implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Separately, the federal government has activated an emergency economic response after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed an 18-member committee to assess the economic impact of rising international oil prices following attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel.

According to an official notification, the committee will monitor fluctuations in oil prices and prepare measures to mitigate the impact on Pakistan’s economy.
