Pakistan has entered a new era of urban transportation as NORINCO International introduced the country’s first Super Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (SRT) metro demonstration vehicle in Lahore this July.
The launch follows the success of the Orange Line Metro and signals NORINCO’s continued commitment to innovation in Pakistan’s transport sector. The SRT system is being promoted as an advanced, intelligent, and environmentally friendly transit solution.

Described as a “subway on the road,” the SRT system runs on Virtual Track Technology. This digitally guided and highly flexible mode of transport is designed to adapt to the demands of modern cities without relying on conventional rail tracks.
Similar systems are already operating in several Chinese cities and have also been adopted by countries such as Malaysia, the UAE, and Türkiye. The SRT was first introduced in April 2021 in Yancheng, China, and has since received the Zhan Tianyou Award from the China Civil Engineering Society for its groundbreaking contribution to public transport.
The arrival of the SRT demonstration vehicle in Lahore marks the beginning of local trials and feasibility studies, with the potential for future deployment in Pakistan’s urban centres.
Its trackless operation, smart navigation, and low-carbon footprint make it a promising addition to the country’s evolving transit landscape.
