Here’s When Pakistan is Likely to Resume Flights to UK

Pakistan is expected to receive approval from British aviation authorities to restart flight operations by the first quarter of 2025. The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) has confirmed that officials from the Department for Transport and the UK Civil Aviation Authority will conduct an inspection in January 2025.

Ahead of this visit, a virtual meeting is scheduled for December 2024 to discuss preparations and operational readiness. This inspection will evaluate Pakistan’s aviation standards and compliance, following the same criteria used in a recent European Union review.

The positive outcome of the EU assessment has strengthened Pakistan’s case for resuming flights to the UK. Authorities are optimistic that operational clearance will be granted shortly after the January assessment.

Before flight operations were suspended, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operated 21 weekly flights to the UK, including 10 to London, 9 to Manchester, and 2 to Birmingham. The anticipated resumption of services is expected to boost PIA’s revenue and enhance connectivity for passengers traveling between Pakistan and Europe.

The reopening of UK flight operations would mark a significant milestone for Pakistan’s aviation industry, offering improved travel options for passengers and generating increased foreign exchange. The initiative reflects the country’s ongoing efforts to restore confidence in its aviation sector and meet international safety standards.
