Here’s when Lahore will be getting artificial rain

As smog continues to blanket Lahore, authorities are preparing to conduct artificial rain on November 11 and 12 to reduce the city’s hazardous air quality.

The Environmental and Meteorological Departments have begun extensive preparations to ensure the initiative is ready to address Lahore’s smog crisis.

The Meteorological Department stated that cloud monitoring is underway, assessing whether conditions will support artificial rain over the coming days.

According to forecasts, there is a 30% likelihood of adequate cloud moisture on November 11 and 12. If these moisture-laden clouds are present, it will allow officials to attempt artificial rain, marking the season’s first trial run in Lahore.

Raja Jahangir Anwar, the Secretary of Environment, explained that Army Aviation has developed the technology required for artificial rain production, with helicopters and special equipment ready to deploy.

Anwar highlighted that the success of this operation depends on favourable weather conditions, particularly sufficient cloud density and moisture levels, which are critical to induce rainfall effectively.

Officials believe that if the artificial rain succeeds, it could significantly reduce the levels of smog in Lahore, providing temporary relief as longer-term pollution control measures continue.

With all preparations complete, environmental authorities and meteorologists are closely monitoring conditions to ensure that the artificial rain effort is optimally timed.
