Govt announces 3 public holidays next week

The government has officially declared three public holidays in Islamabad and Rawalpindi in connection with the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

The holidays will be observed on October 14, 15, and 16, 2024 (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday), according to a notification issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

The decision is aimed at ensuring the smooth conduct of the 23rd SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting, which will bring several high-profile international leaders to the capital. By declaring these holidays, authorities hope to minimize traffic disruptions and ensure security for the visiting dignitaries.

“The Prime Minister has been pleased to declare 14th, 15th, and 16th October, 2024 as closed holidays within the territorial limits of Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi District to facilitate the smooth conduct of the SCO Council of Heads of Government,” the notification stated.

This official announcement follows earlier confusion caused by a false notification that had been circulated on social media. The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad had previously dismissed the fake notice, urging the public to ignore any unofficial reports about public holidays and restrictions.

Now, with the official confirmation, residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi can prepare for the three-day break during the important summit.
