DG passport shares good news for those waiting for passports

The backlog of passport issuance across Pakistan has been cleared following orders from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, as confirmed by the Passport and Immigration Directorate.

Officials have reported that major cities have caught up with the delayed applications. In the capital, Islamabad, over 14,600 pending cases were finalized, while Karachi processed 83,000 applications.

Lahore’s Garden Town office handled 30,800 passports, with 4,800 cases cleared in Raiwind and another 11,400 in Shadman. Other cities like Quetta, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar also made significant progress, clearing 7,200, 18,400, and 23,100 cases respectively.

The Directorate further revealed that urgent passports were delivered to 5,650 applicants, and 15,800 passports were sent directly to recipients’ homes.

An additional 17,900 normal and 41,700 urgent passport applications were resolved through embassies, bringing relief to overseas Pakistanis.

Director General of Passports Mustafa Jamal Qazi confirmed the backlog has been fully addressed in key cities, with teams working around the clock to ensure smooth processing.

The next step is to extend the effort to remaining parts of the country, aiming to maintain efficiency in passport issuance moving forward.

This development follows nationwide complaints regarding delays in passport processing, which had caused significant inconvenience to citizens.
