Unknown assailants shot and killed Punjabi artist Sidhu Moose Wala in Jawaharke village, Mansa district, on Sunday, May 29.
The Punjab Police had lowered security for 424 people the day before the incident, including Punjabi artist singer-cum-politician, according to India Today.
An AN-94 Russian assault weapon, according to accounts, was used in his murder. According to the police, three separate guns fired over 30 shots.
Organisation ‘Sikhs For Justice’ (SFJ) in a statement has said that “now is the moment to support the Khalistan Referendum for the liberation of Punjab from India” in the aftermath of Sidhu Moose Wala’s assassination.

Sidhu Moose Wala’s Political Career:
In this year’s election, Sidhu Moose Wala ran for Punjab assembly from Mansa on a Congress ticket. However, he was defeated by AAP candidate Vijay Singla by 63,000 votes. Vijay Singla, the Punjab Chief Minister, was recently ousted after suspicions of corruption.
Last month, the politician sparked outrage with his song “Scapegoat,” which criticised the Aam Aadmi Party and its fans. The singer referred to AAP supporters as “gaddar” in his song (traitor).
His Music Career:
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, was also known as Sidhu Moose Wala. He was born in the Moose Wala village in Mansa district on June 17, 1993. Moose Wala had a massive following and was well-known for his rapping.
Moose Wala had a degree in electrical engineering. He had gone to college to study music and then moved to Canada.
He was also known for being one of Punjab’s most contentious singers, openly embracing gun culture and singing fiery songs about gangsters.
