PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN: About 56 worshipers have embraced martyrdom while 194 others sustained injuries in a suicide bomb blast. The powerful explosion happened inside a mosque in Peshawar’s Kocha Risaldar area/Qissa Khuwani Bazar during the Friday prayers, Geo News reported, citing health and police officials.
Authorities including police and rescue personnel have reached the blast site. The dead and the injured are being taken to the nearby health facilities.
“10 injured are reported to be in critical condition,” according to a Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) spokesperson.
According to eyewitnesses, the dreadful explosion took place during the prayer proceedings.
In a statement to the media, Advisor to KP Chief Minister Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif confirmed that the explosion took place during Friday prayers.
“Reportedly the terrorists first tried to enter the mosque where they exchanged fire with the police,” said Barrister Saif.
He said that a terrorist managed to enter the mosque and carried out the attack.
Peshawar SSP Operations Haroon Al-Rasheed told Geo News that apparently it was a suicide attack.
“The two security personnel were appointed, at the mosque entrance. One of them died during the exchange of fire while the other has received serious injuries.”
Confirming the details, CCPO Peshawar Mohammad Ejaz said that two terrorists opened fire at the policemen and tried to enter the mosque.
“The blast took place after an attack on policemen.”

After this barbarous attack, the authorities have been mobilized and are on red alert, as the Latest reports suggest. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan as extended condolences to the grieved families. Also, the PM Imran Khan has mentioned in a tweet that initial inquiries are leading to the executors of the attack and state is after them with full force.
