The government has increased petrol prices by Rs30 per litre just a week after boosting them and on the same day as increasing power costs.
Miftah Ismail, the Finance Minister, declared on Friday that the federal government had decided to raise the cost of all petroleum products.
The new prices will come into effect on June 3, according to the minister, who spoke at a press conference in the capital.
Petrol will be priced at Rs209.86, diesel at Rs204.15, kerosene oil at Rs181.94 and light diesel at Rs178.31, according to the latest increase.
The minister stated that they were in discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), but that they were unable to accept all of their demands. However, the government had to agree on certain items, he stressed.
He assured the public that the government will keep sugar and wheat prices at Rs70 per kg and Rs40 per kg at utility stores across the country.
