Supreme Court Judge’s Daughter Acquitted in Hit-and-Run Case

A local court in Islamabad has acquitted Shanzay Malik, daughter of Supreme Court Judge Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan, who was accused in a hit-and-run case that resulted in the deaths of two employees of Savour Foods.

The verdict was announced by Judicial Magistrate Adnan Yousuf, who approved the acquittal plea submitted by Malik’s legal team.

The case, registered at Khanna police station, alleged that she was behind the wheel of a vehicle that struck and killed the two restaurant workers.

During the hearing, Malik’s lawyer, Advocate Siddique Awan, argued that the prosecution failed to present any solid evidence. He pointed out that the case was filed 11 days after the incident without justification for the delay.

He also highlighted that no video proof was submitted, and the photos brought to court did not clearly confirm her identity.

On the other hand, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Tufail Shahzad, insisted that forensic reports proved a woman was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. He also stated that two witnesses had identified Malik as the driver.

The case, which had been unresolved since 2022, saw the charges against Malik downgraded from a non-bailable offense to a bailable one.

After reviewing all arguments, the court ruled that there was insufficient evidence to proceed with prosecution, leading to her acquittal.
