Pakistan Gets Hosting Rights of Another Major ICC Tournament

Pakistan has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2028 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, marking a historic first for the nation in the women’s cricket arena.

The tournament is expected to be a milestone event, providing a platform to promote women’s cricket in Pakistan and inspire future generations.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has also confirmed that matches involving India and Pakistan in this tournament will be held at neutral venues, continuing the longstanding arrangement due to political tensions between the two nations.

Before the Women’s T20 World Cup, Pakistan will host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, a 50-over event, marking the first global cricket tournament in the country since the 1996 Men’s Cricket World Cup.

The tournament will feature eight teams: Pakistan, India, Australia, England, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, and South Africa.

The ICC has clarified that neutral venues will also apply to the 2025 Champions Trophy and other ICC events during the 2024-27 cycle, including the Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in 2026.

The ICC’s decision to award the Women’s T20 World Cup to Pakistan signals a growing trust in the nation’s ability to host international events despite regional challenges. This landmark tournament is expected to bolster the profile of women’s cricket in Pakistan and contribute to the sport’s development across the region.

The ICC has yet to announce detailed schedules for both the Champions Trophy and the Women’s T20 World Cup, but both events promise to be transformative moments in Pakistan’s cricketing history.
