Faisalabad Will Soon Have Nearly 100 Electric Buses on Six Routes

Punjab Transport Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javid Qazi has announced the introduction of 86 eco-friendly electric buses as part of the first phase of a sustainable urban transport plan. These include 50 nine-meter and 36 eleven-meter buses, with funding already approved by the Punjab Cabinet.

Dr. Qazi made this statement during a visit to Faisalabad to assess urban transport requirements, plan for a metro bus service, and oversee preparations for the intra-city electric bus initiative.

During his visit, he presided over a meeting at the FDA Complex Committee Room, which was attended by key officials and stakeholders. Consultant Muhammad Mobasher from the Asian Development Bank outlined plans for the metro bus service, while CTO Punjab Transport Company Hassan Faiq Manhas shared updates on the intra-city electric bus project.

Three locations—Ghulam Muhammadabad, Sargodha Road, and Gatwala—have been identified for the construction of bus depots to support the new electric fleet.

Dr. Qazi stressed the need for integrated planning, directing the district administration, FDA, traffic police, and municipal authorities to prioritize route development and road infrastructure improvements.

He further instructed that the metro bus project and the electric bus initiative be aligned, emphasizing the importance of consultation with all relevant departments, including WASA, to ensure smooth implementation and long-term efficiency.
