Karachi’s Business Community Announces Launch of New Airline

Karachi’s business community has announced plans to launch a new airline, ‘Air Karachi,’ which is poised to make a significant impact on Pakistan’s aviation sector. The initiative is being led by businessman Hanif Gohar, who confirmed that the airline has been officially registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

In addition, a formal request for an operating licence has been submitted to the federal government, marking a crucial step toward the airline’s launch.

The airline plans to begin operations by leasing three aircraft, which will initially serve domestic routes. Retired Air Vice Marshal Imran, formerly of the Southern Command, has been appointed as the airline’s CEO. His extensive experience in aviation leadership is expected to steer Air Karachi through its early stages and ensure its success in a competitive market.

The launch of Air Karachi is supported by an investment of Rs 5 billion, with shareholders each contributing Rs 50 million. This significant investment highlights the potential for growth in Pakistan’s aviation sector, despite the challenges posed by global economic fluctuations and domestic competition.

This move comes at a time when several other new airlines are looking to enter the Pakistani market. Airlines such as Jet Green, Q Airways, and Go Green Air have already approached the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for licences, demonstrating the growing interest in the country’s aviation sector.

These new entrants aim to enhance domestic travel options, reduce flight costs, and stimulate economic growth through increased foreign exchange and job creation.

Currently, Pakistan’s private airline industry is dominated by Airblue, SereneAir, and AirSial. The addition of Air Karachi is expected to increase competition, benefiting passengers with more affordable and varied flight options while also contributing to the country’s aviation infrastructure development.

If successful, Air Karachi could become a major player in the domestic aviation market, contributing to economic growth and enhancing the overall travel experience for Pakistan’s citizens.
