Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Tajikistan‘s President Emomali Rahmon on Tuesday, underscoring substantial opportunities for foreign investment in Pakistan’s energy, mining, industry, agriculture, and other sectors.
Upon arriving at Qasr-e-Millat, Prime Minister Shehbaz was warmly welcomed by President Rahmon, followed by a guard of honor by Tajik armed forces.
President Emomali Rahmon emphasized the close and fraternal relations between Pakistan and Tajikistan. The leaders explored avenues to enhance cooperation across various fields between their nations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz extended an invitation for Tajikistan to invest in diverse sectors of Pakistan, focusing on improving regional connectivity and enhancing ties between the peoples of both countries.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commenced a two-day official visit to Tajikistan at the invitation of President Emomali Rahmon. His delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi.
During the visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet President Rahmon, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of Majlisi Oli Mahmadtoir Zoir Zokirzoda, and Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda, as per a statement from the Foreign Office (FO).
“The discussions will cover a wide range of topics of mutual interest to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly focusing on regional connectivity, trade, people-to-people exchanges, energy cooperation, and collaboration on multilateral issues,” the FO added.
The two nations will also finalize agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across various fields of collaboration.
The visit is part of routine high-level engagements between Pakistan and Tajikistan, according to the press release.
Earlier reports from Business Recorder indicated that Pakistan and Tajikistan are expected to conclude a Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) during the Prime Minister’s visit.

“To enhance bilateral cooperation with Tajikistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has drafted an SPA proposing collaboration in trade and investment, security and defense, energy and connectivity, culture, tourism, people-to-people exchanges, as well as a plan of action (2024-26),” the sources added.
