Fawad Chaudhry, a senior member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), declared emphatically on Wednesday that any attempt by the ruling class to put up a technocratic government in the nation will be rejected tenaciously.
In response to allegations that a caretaker setup to help the nation through the current crisis for a two-year period is in the works, he said that it is nothing more than a joke because such a setup is not a solution to the problems faced by the nation.
Shabbar Zaidi, an economist and former chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue under the PTI administration, recently asserted that, given the nation’s current economic crisis, discussions were currently taking place to install a caretaker government made up of experts in place of the coalition government of the Pakistan Democratic Movement.
Speaking to media, Fawad Chaudhry blatantly declared that it would be a mistake to overthrow the current administration and impose a technocrat-led administration for a period of 2.5 years.
He demanded that “such experiments and jokes” with Pakistan must come to an end as “enough is enough”.
“You will import a technocrat from the US and have him sit here […] he will take a decision then there will be criticism and rallies against it…after which he will leave his shoes here and run away with his briefcase in his hand,” he lamented.
He argued that holding general elections is the only way to get the country out of the current issues and that the Constitution has a provision for doing so in the event that the administration fails.
He asserted that it was an easy thing because Pakistan’s constitution gave a precisely and clearly written political skeleton.
Chaudhry added that the failure of Shehbaz Sharif’s administration was a contributing factor in the concept of bringing a technocrat from the US or another country.

“We will fully condemn the proposal of a technocratic setup. We will fully condemn going out of the constitution. Under any circumstances, a system beyond the constitution is simply not acceptable to us no matter what. Political parties should also focus on this,” he declared.
He added that the current political impasse, not the economic crisis, was the cause of the impasse, and that elections will bring forth the required political stability.
Meanwhile, the PTI leader attributed the spike in terrorism occurrences to the current administration.
