Upcoming VR can actually kill humans

A VR gadget designed by Palmer Luckey, a pioneer in virtual reality and the creator of Oculus, which is now better recognised as a component of Facebook’s Meta, will really kill the player if they lose the game.

Luckey’s deadly headset, NerveGear, resembles a Meta Quest Pro with three overhead explosive charge units.

The user’s forebrain is the target of the charges, which, if they explode, will completely destroy the user’s skull.

Players begin Sword Art Online, a new game based on the Japanese anime and novel of the same name, while wearing a NeveGear VR headset.

Today is November 6th, 2022, the day of the SAO Incident.  Thousands of VRMMORPG gamers were trapped by a mad scientist inside a death game that could only be escaped through completion.  If their hit points dropped to zero, their brain would be bombarded by extraordinarily powerful microwaves, supposedly killing the user.  The same would happen if anyone in the real world tampered with their NerveGear, the virtual reality head-mounted display that transported their minds and souls to Aincrad, the primary setting of Sword Art Online,” Luckey wrote on his blog

In order to escape a mad scientist’s virtual world, the players must fight their way through a 100-floor dungeon.

Because you can’t yet buy the killer VR headgear, try not to get overly excited or terrified.

The foundation of Mark Zuckerberg’s march into the metaverse, Oculus, was sold by Luckey to Facebook in 2014
