Punjab Schools Likely to Get Early Summer Vacations

Punjab is considering early summer vacations for schools as rising temperatures and heatwave concerns continue to intensify across the province.

The possibility of severe weather conditions, combined with expected Eid ul Adha holidays later this month, has prompted discussions on revising the academic schedule for educational institutions.

In its latest advisory for May, June, and July, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said temperatures across most districts are expected to remain above normal between May 7 and May 11. The authority also warned of possible heatwave conditions in several parts of the province.

Sources said Eid ul Adha holidays are expected from May 27 to May 29. Since May 30 and May 31 fall on the weekend, authorities are considering starting summer vacations from May 27 instead of the usual June 1 schedule.

Meanwhile, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has proposed reducing summer and winter vacations in the future to compensate for academic losses and increase annual academic days from 180 to 190.

Private educational institutions have also requested permission to hold summer camps from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. during the vacation period to help students continue academic activities despite the break.
