ISLAMABAD – In a major push to promote sports and healthy living, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced an ambitious plan to construct 25 cricket grounds and 25 football grounds across the federal capital. The initiative also includes the development of multiple state-of-the-art sports complexes in various sectors of Islamabad.
The announcement came during a high-level meeting held at CDA Headquarters, chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The project is aimed at enhancing recreational facilities for residents—particularly the youth—while contributing to community development and the beautification of the capital city.
“The project reflects the authority’s commitment to improving public facilities and creating more spaces for physical activity. These grounds and complexes will be state-of-the-art, ensuring that Islamabad’s residents have access to quality sports infrastructure,” said Randhawa.
According to CDA officials, the new sports facilities will be strategically distributed across different sectors of Islamabad to ensure accessibility for all communities. In addition to the new constructions, existing football and cricket grounds will also be upgraded. The plan further includes the installation of paddle courts, improved pedestrian bridges in recreational zones, and enhanced sports-related infrastructure.
This sports initiative is part of a broader urban development agenda currently underway in the capital. Other components of this agenda include upgrading major roads, constructing new underpasses to ease traffic congestion, restoring green spaces, improving park lighting, and installing modern streetlights throughout the city.
Randhawa emphasized the importance of high standards and integrity throughout the process, stating that “transparency and quality will be maintained throughout the project.”
The CDA’s initiative marks a significant investment in public well-being, aiming to make Islamabad not only a more livable city but also a hub for sports and outdoor activity.
