Prices of solar panels, lithium batteries, and inverters have declined significantly in Karachi’s electronics markets after fears of higher taxes on solar equipment proved unfounded.
Traders said many dealers increased prices before the federal budget after rumors suggested the government would impose new taxes on solar products. Some shopkeepers also stockpiled solar equipment in anticipation of higher prices, expecting to earn larger profits after the budget announcement.

However, the government did not introduce any additional taxes on solar equipment. At the same time, continued imports and sufficient inventory kept supplies high, while consumer demand weakened. The combination forced dealers to cut prices to boost sales.
As a result, the price of solar panels has dropped from around Rs. 50 per watt to Rs. 45 per watt for 645W, 585W, and 720W models. Lithium battery prices have fallen by approximately Rs. 30,000, while inverter prices have declined by around Rs. 10,000.
A 5kWh lithium battery is currently available for about Rs. 230,000, while 3kW to 5kW inverters are selling for between Rs. 120,000 and Rs. 300,000, depending on the brand and specifications.
Market dealers believe prices are likely to remain stable in the coming weeks as supply continues to outpace demand and the uncertainty surrounding the federal budget has subsided.
