The Punjab Masstransit Authority (PMA) is preparing to revise fares for the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train, Lahore Metro Bus (Green Line), and all feeder bus services, officials confirmed. A detailed proposal is expected to be presented at the authority’s next meeting.
Rising operational and maintenance costs have put significant strain on the provincial transport budget, prompting the planned fare adjustments. Sources said the last fare revision for the Orange Line occurred nearly two years ago, while Metro Bus fares were updated around seven years ago.

Under the proposal, Metro Bus fares would increase from Rs30 to Rs40, Orange Line fares would rise from Rs45 to Rs50, and fares for feeder and Speedo buses would go up by Rs5. Once the authority approves the plan, it will be forwarded to the Chief Minister through the Transport Department for final sanction.
Currently, the Punjab government provides an annual subsidy of Rs21 billion to support mass transit in Lahore, Rawalpindi-Islamabad, and Multan. Fare collection covers only 24 percent of the total operating and maintenance costs, with the government funding the remaining 76 percent. Previously, fare contributions accounted for 32 percent, but rising energy and maintenance expenses have reduced this share.
The Orange Line alone receives an Rs8 billion annual subsidy, mainly due to electricity costs. Lahore Metro Bus operations receive Rs2.75 billion, while feeder routes, including Speedo buses, are allocated Rs2.5 billion. Officials say the proposed fare hike aims to ease the subsidy burden while maintaining reliable and affordable public transport.
