The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has rejected a false advisory making rounds on social media that claimed mobile phones would be blocked if more than five SIMs were used within a month.
The fabricated post, which carried PTA’s official logo, falsely stated that devices using five SIMs would have their International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) blocked. PTA clarified that no such directive has been issued.

Zaib-un-Nisa, PTA’s Director of Communications, termed the viral message a “fake SIM advisory attributed to PTA.” She emphasized that the authority does not track SIM usage device-wise and has not introduced any policy limiting the number of SIMs that can be used in a single phone.
PTA explained that its regulatory efforts are focused on preventing IMEI duplication and device cloning, both of which pose serious risks to consumer security. The authority continues to block suspicious devices, conduct joint raids with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and raise public awareness to combat mobile fraud.
The misleading advisory has been flagged as misinformation on PTA’s verified social media platforms. Citizens are urged to rely only on PTA’s official website and verified accounts for accurate updates.
The incident underscores the growing problem of misinformation in the digital age and highlights the importance of verifying facts before sharing unconfirmed news online.
