Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, who remains imprisoned at Adiala Jail, has been given new books to read, in line with a court directive.
Barrister Salman Safdar, Khan’s legal counsel, personally delivered the books to the jail administration earlier this week. The move follows orders from the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi, which instructed authorities to provide reading material and allow Khan limited contact with his children.

Photographs of the books, shared on social media by user Rizwan Ghilzai, quickly gained attention online. The selection includes a mix of historical, political, and Islamic titles.
Among them is “On Palestine” by Noam Chomsky and Ilan Pappé, a critical examination of the Israeli-Palestinian struggle. Also included is “The Black Jacobins” by C. L. R. James, an influential account of the Haitian Revolution and the role of Toussaint L’Ouverture.
The collection further features works on Islamic history and thought: “Reopening Muslim Minds” by Mustafa Akyol, “Lost Islamic History” by Firas Alkhateeb, “Caliphate” by Hugh Kennedy, and “The Life of Salah Ud Din Ayyubi” by Baha al-Din Ibn Shaddad, a biography of the Muslim commander who recaptured Jerusalem.
Khan, first arrested in August 2023 after his conviction in the Toshakhana case, is now serving a 14-year prison sentence in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case.
