10 More Cities in Punjab Get Water and Sanitation Agencies

The Punjab government has announced the establishment of 10 new Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASAs) across the province in an effort to improve access to clean drinking water and enhance urban sanitation systems.

With this addition, the total number of WASAs in Punjab has risen to 15. The newly created agencies will now serve Jhelum, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Sargodha, Jhang, Okara, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Rahim Yar Khan.

The decision was formalized through a notification issued by the Secretary of Housing, Urban Development, and Public Health Engineering, and has been approved by the Governor of Punjab.

Each agency will be overseen by a governing body that includes officials from the Housing, Planning, and Finance departments, two MPAs nominated by the Chief Minister, the respective deputy commissioner, a WASA representative, three technical experts, and one female member. The managing director of each WASA will act as the secretary of the governing body.

Previously, WASAs operated only in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Multan. The expansion to 10 more districts reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening public health infrastructure and ensuring reliable water and sanitation services across urban Punjab.
