Shehbaz Sharif Stresses Skilled Workforce, Modern Tech for Industrial Growth

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday directed the early finalization of the industrial policy to boost production and provide sustainable solutions to the challenges facing Pakistan’s industrial sector. Chairing a meeting on industrial development, the prime minister emphasized that the policy must be prepared in consultation with all relevant stakeholders.

He highlighted that equipping local industries with a skilled workforce and modern technology, in line with international standards, is a top priority for the government. During the meeting, various recommendations for the development of national industries were presented to him.

In a separate high-level meeting on the operations of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed that all vocational and technical training programs offered across Pakistan should be aligned with international standards. He underscored the importance of globally accredited training to enhance the employability of Pakistan’s youth in international markets and increase foreign remittances.

According to a news release from the Prime Minister’s Office, he stressed the need to strengthen the country’s skilled workforce to meet global demands. NAVTTC officials briefed the prime minister on recent initiatives, including the nationwide mapping of vocational institutions and the activation of the National Technical and Vocational Training Data Management System.

Later in the day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a farewell meeting with the outgoing Country Director of the World Bank in Pakistan, Najy Benhassine. During the meeting, the prime minister expressed best wishes for Benhassine and prayed for his health and success.

“You played a pivotal role in strengthening the partnership between Pakistan and the World Bank, for which we are grateful,” the prime minister said while speaking to the outgoing director.
