Khawaja Asif on India and Pakistan Situation

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that Indian drones were deliberately allowed to enter a “safe limit” before being intercepted and neutralised, in order to avoid revealing or compromising sensitive locations.

Reassuring lawmakers of the military’s readiness, he said, “No one should doubt that our armed forces are fully engaged in responding to Indian aggression.” He went on to add, “We are 200 per cent prepared for any situation,” emphasizing the high morale and preparedness of Pakistan’s armed forces.

Asif also highlighted the diplomatic support Pakistan is receiving from allies, noting that countries such as China, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan have expressed unequivocal backing for Pakistan during the crisis. He further mentioned that the government is in active and ongoing diplomatic contact with several nations. “The government is engaged in daily diplomatic contacts with countries including Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, China, and Qatar, in efforts to de-escalate the situation,” he said.

He accused India of deliberately targeting civilian areas, religious seminaries, and mosques, resulting in significant casualties.

He announced a nationwide solidarity movement under the banner of “Youm-e-Dafa Watan” (Defence of the Homeland Day), declaring that public rallies would be held in support of Pakistan’s armed forces. “A march is scheduled in Peshawar on May 11, followed by another in Quetta on May 15,” the JUI-F chief said.
