Major power breakdown disrupts Karachi as high-tension line trips

Karachi faced a major power breakdown on Sunday after an Extra High Tension (EHT) line tripped, causing widespread disruption to the city’s electricity supply,

The fault in the high-tension line disrupted power to over 400 feeders connected to 23 grid stations across the city.

A K-Electric spokesperson confirmed that the issue stemmed from a tripping in the high-tension line at 11 AM on Sunday, which impacted several key areas of Karachi.

The power outage affected numerous grid stations, including Bilal Town, Airport, Garden, North Karachi, Jacob Line, Jail Road, Orangi, Mehmoodabad, Korangi East, DHA, Old Golimar, and others. Additional areas such as Korangi South, SITE, and Clifton also experienced disruptions.

According to the K-Electric spokesperson, “the fault caused power disruptions in some areas, but efforts to restore supply began immediately, and power was gradually restored to most parts of the city.”

The restoration process started within two hours, although some areas endured longer outages. K-Electric assured the public that the technical fault was promptly resolved and confirmed that power supply to all affected areas, including Lasbela and Bilal Town, had been fully restored. Electricity is now functioning normally throughout the city.
