PMD Clears Up Rumors of Coldest Weather in 100 Years

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has denied recent social media claims about an extreme cold wave and snowfall in Pakistan, calling them unfounded and inaccurate.

In a statement released on Friday, the PMD clarified that reports predicting “the coldest days and nights in 100 years” from January 12 to 15, along with snowfall in central Punjab similar to Saudi Arabia, are baseless and lack any scientific verification.

The department stated that snowfall in central Punjab is geographically and climatically impossible, emphasizing that such claims hold no merit.

Forecasts indicate that most regions of Pakistan will experience cold and dry weather. However, there is no evidence supporting predictions of a historic cold wave.

On January 11, some areas, including Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, and Pakpattan, may see light rain or drizzle accompanied by strong winds.

The PMD advised the public to rely on verified weather updates from its official platforms and to ignore rumors spread through unofficial sources.

It further noted that such false information causes unnecessary alarm. The department reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate forecasts and ensuring public awareness of weather conditions.
