The 12th International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024 began today at the Karachi Expo Centre, highlighting Pakistan’s advancements in military technology. Organised by the Ministry of Defence and the Defence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO), the four-day event will run from 19 to 22 November.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif inaugurated the exhibition.This year’s exhibition has drawn global attention, with 17 new countries, including Iran, Italy, and the United Kingdom, participating alongside long-standing contributors.

A dedicated hall has also been introduced for start-ups to showcase innovative defence solutions. Among the key attractions is the Pakistan-made Shahpar-III drone, a cutting-edge combat UAV capable of flying for 30 hours, carrying a payload of up to 1,650 kilograms, and equipped with advanced avionics and flight control systems.
Global Industrial and Defence Solutions (GIDS), the organisation behind Shahpar-III, described it as the result of three decades of effort. Another major highlight is the unveiling of the Haider tank, reflecting Pakistan’s strides in self-reliance in military production.
This year’s IDEAS has expanded significantly, with 224 local and 333 international companies participating. Over 55 countries are showcasing their latest defence technologies in a venue that spans six halls and three marquees, underscoring the event’s global significance.
The exhibition serves as a platform to strengthen international partnerships and demonstrate Pakistan’s growing capabilities in defence technology.
