Supreme Court judges get massive salary and allowance increase

The federal government has raised the salaries and allowances for judges of the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan.

The house rent allowance for SC judges has been increased from Rs. 68,000 to Rs. 350,000, while the judicial allowance has been raised from Rs. 3.42 million to Rs. 10.9 million.

This decision was finalized following the approval of Acting President Yousuf Raza Gilani and the Ministry of Law and Justice.

This development comes after a similar move last July, when the salary of the Chief Justice of Pakistan was increased by over Rs. 200,000, reaching over Rs. 1.2 million.

Furthermore, a 20 percent salary hike for Supreme Court judges was approved through an ordinance by then-President Sadiq Sanjrani, with other judges also receiving a 20 percent raise, bringing their salaries to over Rs. 1.1 million.

Earlier this week, the government also approved significant salary and housing allowance increases for high court judges.

Under the new provisions, house rent allowance for high court judges has been raised from Rs. 65,000 to Rs. 350,000, while the judicial allowance now stands at Rs. 1,090,000.

This raises the total salary of a high court judge to an estimated Rs. 2 million, reflecting the growing cost of living in the capital.
