Karachi hit by intense rain-fall, gusty winds

On Monday night, intense rain and strong winds hit parts of the urban port city, as the Meteorological Office predicted showers from August 27 to 31 across Sindh province.

Rain showers with gusty winds affected Malir Cantt and nearby areas, while thunderstorms, strong winds, and light drizzle were recorded at the airport. Areas including Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Tariq Road, PECHS, FB Area, Bufferzone, II Chundrigar Road, and surrounding regions experienced varying intensities of rain and strong winds. Additionally, some parts of Defence also saw rain showers.

Earlier, during a meeting on rain emergency measures chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Met Chief Sardar Sarfaraz forecasted rainfall between 150mm and 200mm for the port city, according to an official statement from the Sindh CM House. The Met chief also noted that thunderstorms with scattered heavy to isolated and very heavy falls are expected. Urban flooding from intense downpours, along with rain-induced inundation in Karachi and other metropolitan areas of Sindh, is anticipated.

In response to these forecasts, CM Murad has instructed all local bodies, the district administration, and the irrigation department to be ready for prompt action in case of emergencies. He also directed the Fisheries Department to advise fishermen to take necessary precautions during this period.
