Govt Officially Increases Employees’ Salaries and Pensions

On Wednesday, the Pakistan government announced an increase in salaries and pensions for employees, as outlined in the Budget 2024-25.

According to the Finance Division’s notification, government employees up to grade 16 will receive a 25% increase in their adhoc relief allowance. For those in grades 17 to 22, the increase will be 20%.

Furthermore, the notification confirmed a 15% increase in pensions for federal employees, also proposed in the Budget 2024.

The Finance Division stated, “The President has approved an Adhoc Relief Allowance 2024 for all federal government employees, including armed forces personnel, civil armed forces, and civil employees of the federal government, as well as civilians paid from defence estimates, contingent paid staff, and contract employees on standard contract terms.”

The relief allowance will be subject to income tax and will be paid during regular time off and retirement preparation leaves. However, it will not be available during ‘extraordinary’ leaves.

This allowance will not be included in the calculation of pensions, gratuities, or house rent. Furthermore, it will not be provided to employees on deputation abroad.

Upon their return and reappointment to their departments, they will begin receiving the allowance again.
